Using this site.

If anything here is hard to read, hard to press or hard to hear, that is our problem to fix, not yours to work around. This page says what we changed, what we know is still wrong, and how to get a person on it.

Change how this site reads

A button in the bottom left corner of this page says Reading options. Open it here. It is on this page and on the Spanish pages so far — not yet on the rest of the site. That is named below as something still to do, because telling you a button is on every page when it is on eight of them would be the exact thing this page exists not to do. It lets you:

  • Make every word bigger, in two steps.
  • Open up the space between lines of a paragraph.
  • Put a line under every link, so you are not hunting for them by colour.
  • Hold still anything that moves or plays by itself.

Your choices stay in your own browser on your own device. They are not sent to us and we cannot see them. Press Put everything back in the same panel to undo all of it.

Your phone, tablet and computer also have their own settings for bigger text, more contrast and less movement, and this site follows those settings on its own. If you have already turned movement down on your device, this site was already holding still before you got here.

What we have already done

  • Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a Skip to content link first, so you are not tabbing through the whole menu to reach the page.
  • Every page has one main heading and a real heading order underneath it, so a screen reader can move through the page by section.
  • Every picture that carries information has a written description. Pictures that are only decoration are marked so a screen reader passes over them instead of reading them out.
  • Every box you type into has a written label attached to it. Not a grey hint that vanishes the moment you start typing.
  • Nothing on this site tells you something by colour alone.
  • Pages fit a phone screen without sideways scrolling.

What we know is still wrong

We would rather write this down than pretend it is finished.

  • On the home page, some of the smallest grey text is too pale against what is behind it. The lines under the research notes are the worst of them. They are being darkened and brought up to the size the rest of the site uses.
  • In the price table on the home page, the View & buy links are small targets for a fingertip. They are getting a bigger area to press, without the words themselves changing size.
  • The Reading options panel is on eight pages so far — this one and the Spanish set — not on all of them. Putting it on every page changes every screen on the site, so it is waiting on a decision rather than on the work.
  • The Spanish half of this site currently covers seven pages: the six people arrive on most, and this one. The rest is still English only.

We do not claim this site meets any particular standard. We would rather tell you exactly what is broken and fix it than hang a badge on the page.

If something here does not work for you

Tell us. You do not need to know the words for what is wrong — “I cannot read the small grey writing on the home page” is a perfect bug report.

A person reads all three — the same person who would answer a sales call. You get a reply within one business day telling you what we found and when it will be fixed. If the fix is going to take a while, we will tell you that instead of going quiet, and we will tell you how to get whatever you were after in the meantime.

If you were trying to do something on this site and could not — book a time, price a job, send us a message — call or text and we will do it with you on the phone. Nothing on this site has to be done on this site.
